BiographyAlbert Chi Hwang was born in 1979 in Oakland, California, the son of immigrants from Taiwan. As an only child, he began drawing and playing the piano from an early age. Hwang later majored in Studio Art at U.C. Irvine and studied painting in New York before moving back to the West Coast to begin his career as a professional artist. Since then, he has exhibited in galleries throughout California and won numerous awards for his work. Hwang lives and paints in Merced, California, where he works as an Institution Artist Facilitator for the Department of Corrections and manages the art programs at CCWF, the largest woman’s prison in the world. In his spare time, Hwang enjoys running, reading, chess and playing with his dog.
